A Green Smoothie a day, keeps the doctor away!
Having recently been on a mission to find a way to stop hot flushes and night sweats brought on by the menopause* I came across a few recipes for green smoothies.
Here is my personal favourite. It’s a combination of a few smoothie recipes I found online, with added ingredients for an extra energy boost.
The better your food blender, the more you will enjoy your smoothie. I invested in a nutribullet, and find it gives me the smoothest smoothie. It’s actually a nutrient extractor, which breaks down the food into a more easily digestible state.
Green Smoothie for hormone balance, detox and energy
10g flaxseeds – either ground or soaked
30g raw spinach
The juice and flesh of half a lemon
5g – 1 teaspoon hemp powder
5g – 1 teaspoon kale powder
Half an avocado
1/4 to 1/3 cucumber, including the skin – approx 100g – but add as much as you like
Fresh herbs to taste – coriander, parsley, basil, mint – including the stalks
300ml water – add more if it’s too thick to drink
Half an apple – if you want a more energising and/or sweeter smoothie – with the skin
The juice and flesh of half a lime – to add flavour – you can add a whole lime if you like it limey and zingy like I do!
Blend until smooth
